Newt & Byte - Chapter 2
2020 - Serious Games Interactive

Overview
Newt & Byte – Chapter 2 is a climate science learning game for 12–13-year-olds, created for the Climate Planet Foundation. In this chapter, our curious duo zooms in on Earth—discovering how rare our planet’s atmosphere is, how greenhouse gases influence temperature, and how delicate our climate balance really is. Through playful mini-interactions, kids explore scientific systems in a fun and engaging way.

What I did
-
Designed mini-games & questions that make climate science feel like playful discovery, not a quiz.
-
Transformed client ideas into gameplay experiences, turning concepts into fun, interactive designs.
-
Directed the design team, giving creative direction, polishing gameplay, and guiding visuals.
-
Acted as feature owner, authored the design document (including narrative and dialogue), and mapped both the overall and mini-game flows.
-
Ran hands-on design sessions with the client—sometimes featuring heated debates about greenhouse gases with cardboard cutouts.
-
Tweaked game elements in Unity, from imperceptible balances to playful interactive feedback.
-
Researched climate science to ensure accuracy with fun.
-
Managed progression via a custom point system and handled localization, bug reporting, and QA.
-
Even crafted visual flair—like particle effects of atoms zipping out of tubes—to make learning feel alive.
