Nature Heroes
2021 - Serious Games Interactive

Overview
Nature Heroes is a Tamagotchi-style game co-created with UNDP and UNICEF to raise climate awareness among Barbadian youth. Players care for a tiny digital island under the guidance of Hum the hummingbird, spending “Human Money” earned by checking into real (GEO) locations or participating in events—blurring the line between the real world and caring gameplay.
What I Did
-
Shaped the design: Wireframed key features and designed a Utility AI system for hints and idle behavior (Hum got pretty chatty).
-
Owned all features: Crafted narrative arcs, world-building elements, tutorial flow, and progression systems that encouraged real-world action.
-
Led the team: Ran feature workshops, guided collaborators on design intent, and managed the comprehensive game design document.
-
Managed the product: Held the backlog, prioritized tasks, and supported QA efforts (pro tip: hummingbirds are surprisingly judgmental editors).
-
Bridged worlds: Designed mechanics that rewarded real-world engagement with in-game growth—players helped their island by helping the Earth

Your overly chatty hummingbird guide, who talks when idle, hints when lost, and maybe judges your planting choices.

The gully where humans cut down trees and damages the environment - bad humans.
